New Delhi:

An Indian passenger on an American Airlines flight from New York to New Delhi is said to have urinated while drunk on a fellow passenger on Saturday. The defendant was identified as 21-year-old Arya Vohra, a US university student, and banned from the airline.

Flight AA292 from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Indira Gandhi International Airport was intercepted upon arrival by local law enforcement for a disruptive customer, according to a statement from American Airlines. The flight landed safely at 9:50 p.m.

The airline said it would no longer allow the passenger on board. “Upon arrival of the plane, the purser informed that the passenger was heavily intoxicated and was not following the crew’s instructions on board. He repeatedly argued with the operating crew, was unwilling to be seated, and was constantly endangering the safety of the crew and the aircraft. After disturbing the safety of other passengers, he ended up urinating on passengers seated on 15G,” American Airlines said, according to ANI news agency.

The American Airlines pilot contacted Delhi ATC before landing about a recalcitrant passenger on board and requested reassurance. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was informed of the necessary measures. “After the plane landed, CISF staff took him off the plane and said passenger also behaved badly towards CISF staff,” an airport official told ANI.

The airport police have taken note of the incident and are taking legal action against the passenger. “We have received a complaint of urinating on a fellow American Airlines passenger against an individual, Arya Vohra, who is studying in the US and lives in the Delhi Defense Colony. We are taking the necessary legal steps,” a senior Delhi police official said.

The Indian Aviation Authority has also requested a detailed report from the airline. “We have received a report from the affected airline. They appear to have handled the situation professionally and taken all appropriate measures,” an official at the Directorate-General for Civil Aviation (DGCA) told ANI news agency.

In November, a man named Shankar Mishra reportedly urinated while intoxicated on a 70-year-old passenger in business class on an Air India New York-New Delhi flight. The incident caused a major uproar as it was not reported to authorities by the airline and only came to light after the victim wrote to N Chandrasekaran, head of Tata Group, which owns Air India. Mr Mishra was later arrested by the Delhi Police.
