Having already spoken to a tool that also uses the technology ofOpen AI But to turn audio recordings into text, developer Jordi Bruin just unveiled a new app that’s completely free (or by donation). This time it’s all about bringing the ChatGPT interface to the Mac, more specifically to the menu bar that’s at the top of the screen. Tool name: MacGPT, already with several hundred apparently very happy users and just over two megabytes to install. All Mac models running macOS Ventura and macOS Monterey are compatible.
MacGPT allows you to use ChatGPT as you would from your browser, by speaking directly to the language model, for example to create product descriptions for your presentation page or to help proofread a cover letter. ChatGPT is also very popular with developers who want to add ready-made pieces of code to their app. However, be careful because the content generated by the platform can sometimes contain errors: it is always important to read and verify the information provided.

As a bonus, MacGPT can be launched by a custom hotkey, which you can set up in the app settings. Note, however, that you must of course sign up to use the solution, a requirement of OpenAI. However, the developer states that due to macOS limitations, it is not possible to use a security key for authentication. In any case, it’s not uncommon for Apple to make life difficult for publishers, especially when they don’t offer their services on the App Store. In addition, even accepting a novelty in business can be very troublesome.

For those who don’t want to overload their hard drive’s memory, don’t panic: ChatGPT is also available for free on the OpenAI official website. And on smartphones there is a trick to be able to communicate with artificial intelligence via the WhatsApp messaging app.
