Activists protest in front of Rembrandt painting without spilling anything

In front of the famous work “The Night Watch” in Amsterdam, climate activists have released a poster. This time, nothing was smeared with paint, nor did anyone stick.

Climate activists demonstrated at Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum in front of Rembrandt’s famous masterpiece, “The Night Watch”. Ten activists from the group “Rebelião da Extinção” performed with a banner in front of the painting on Sunday, according to public broadcaster NOS. The artwork has not been damaged or stained with paint. Furthermore, the activists were not arrested.

A large poster was rolled out in front of the painting with the inscription: “Rise – faster than the sea.” It must “stand up” against climate change and faster than the sea level rises.

As the Netherlands’ “Extinction Rebellion” wrote on Twitter, ten young people aged 15 to 22 participated in the campaign. “The message is clear, no art on a flooded planet,” he said. The museum supervisor guided the weather guards out.

“The Night Watch” shows the civil clock of Amsterdam. It is the most famous work of the Dutch master Rembrandt van Rijn (1606 – 1669).
