ASC Awards: “Elvis” cinematographer Mandy Walker wins best film award; “The Old Man” Is Two-Time TV Winner

Elvis cinematographer Mandy Walker accepted the Feature Film award at the 37th Annual ASC Awards held at the Beverly Hilton tonight. She is the first woman to win the ASC marquee cup.

The feature film ASC winner has won the Oscar almost half the time – 17 times in his 36 years. Greig Fraser won the ASC’s top prize for Dune last year, en route to winning the Camera Oscar.

Walker will battle fellow ASC nominees Darius Khondji (Bardo) and Roger Deakins (Empire of Light), plus James Friend (All Quiet on the Western Front) and Florian Hoffmeister (Tár) for the Best Cinematography Oscar on March 12 .

The documentary trophy went to Ben Bernhard and Riju Das for HBO’s All That Breathes, and Sturla Brandth Grøvlen received the Spotlight Award for DCM Film’s War Sailor.

FX’s freshman drama The Old Man picked up two wins tonight: Jules O’Loughlin in the One-Hour Commercial TV category and Sean Porter for Pilot, Limited Series or TV Movie.

HBO’s Barry’s Carl Herse won for Episode of a Half-Hour Series.

Gina Prince-Bythewood presented the ASC’s Board of Governors Awards to Fences Oscar winner and four-time nominee Viola Davis, and Alejandro G. Iñárritu introduced his Bardo Oscar-nominated Khondji, who received the International Award.

Five-time Emmy nominee Fred Murphy (The Good Wife, In Treatment) accepted the Career Achievement in Television Award presented by Jake Gyllenhaal. Charlie Lieberman (Heroes, Party of Five) received the Presidents Television Award. The Curtis Clark Technical Award went to two-time Emmy winner Sam Nicholson (The Walking Dead, Grey’s Anatomy).

Two-time Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Stephen Goldblatt (The Help, The Prince of Tides) received the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by The Help Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer.

TCM’s Ben Mankiewicz hosted the sixth annual ASC Awards, which honor the year’s best in feature film, documentary and television cinematography.
