UCOM-MHE-YPFB-06-03-2023.- With the goal of consolidating the country’s industrialization and gradually reducing diesel imports, the national government, through YPFB, the operational arm of the hydrocarbon nationalization, will build the “Heroes de Senkata” Biodiesel II and Derivatives Plant in El Alto. with an investment of around 40 million US dollars.
“Today we are making a qualitative leap in El Alto, we are laying the foundation for this ‘Heroes de Senkata’ biodiesel and derivatives plant in homage to this struggling people. Here in the city of El Alto, there was an occasion for the October agenda, where the nationalization of hydrocarbons, the Constituent Assembly (…). We are delivering on what we promised in 2020 to industrialize the country and this is a tangible example,” affirmed President Luis Arce Catacora.
In this regard, the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Energy, Franklin Molina Ortiz, said that the launch of this project is a recognition of those who gave their lives in defense of our natural resources, for democracy and for the nationalist vision that exists within the community. . “This project was directed at the direction of the President to achieve import substitution and drive a real energy transition, reducing fossil fuel consumption and replacing them with green energy,” he added.

The plant will have the capacity to produce 1,500 barrels of biodiesel per day, which will allow reducing imports of diesel and subsidizing this fuel, creating 500 direct and 864 indirect jobs and preventing foreign exchange outflow. The work will be carried out by YPFB Refinación and commissioning is expected by the end of 2024.
Biodiesel is a fuel that mainly uses vegetable oils as raw material. In addition, it is an environmentally friendly green fuel due to its low carbon dioxide (Co2) emissions. In the countryside, in the department of Santa Cruz, the Biodiesel I plant is already being built and the production of the first ecological barrel is planned for this year.
These projects are part of Law n. 1407 of November 9, 2021, which aims to approve the Economic and Social Development Plan (PDES). 2021-2025 “Rebuild the economy to live well, towards industrialization with import substitution,” he said.
