Bromont wants to suspend the law legalizing Airbnbs

Girl dies of drug overdose at Airbnb in Florida

A family is suing Airbnb after their infant daughter died of an overdose at the home they rented in August 2021.

Lydie and Boris Lavenir have rented an AirBnb residence in Wellington, Fla., with their 19-month-old daughter Enora and their four siblings for the vacation, according to The Washington Post.

When Enora’s mother went to pick her up after her two-hour nap, the little girl didn’t wake up.

Enora’s face was blue and white foam came out of her mouth. The family called 911, but it was already too late.

The child’s autopsy eventually revealed the presence of a lethal dose of fentanyl in his system, a drug the family, originally from Guadeloupe, had never heard of.

“It’s like we’ve walked into a trap,” says Boris, Enora’s father.

No one knows how the synthetic opioid got into the little girl’s hands, especially since the investigation couldn’t find the drug anywhere else in the rented apartment.

The parents were also suspected, but police did not find any drugs in their belongings or on their bodies.

The circumstances of the death remain uncertain at the moment and the case has been dropped pending new evidence suggesting an accidental cause.

The family is now suing Airbnb, the owner, the landlord and the previous tenant who threw a party at the venue, alleging the drugs came from the party.

A legal expert said the lawsuit against Airbnb is unlikely to go to trial given the difficulty in determining the origin of the drugs.

“What is certain is that Enora had contact with fentanyl in the Airbnb,” assured her father.
