Mexico: 103 unaccompanied minors found in trucks

Police found 103 unaccompanied minors in an abandoned truck in the Mexican state of Veracruz. Most young people traveling alone are from Guatemala, Mexican officials said.

In the semi-trailer were also 212 adults from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Ecuador. 28 migrants were with other family members in the vehicle, in which a total of 343 passengers were found.

The driverless semi-trailer was discovered on a highway, the National Institute of Migration said. The enclosed trailer is equipped with fans, ventilation systems and a second floor. This would allow people to be accommodated on two levels. The children were placed in the care of the Veracruz authorities. The residency status of the other migrants will be clarified.
