Justin Turner of the Boston Red Sox is rushed to hospital after being hit in the head by wild bad luck

Boston Red Sox infielder Justin Turner is left bloodied and taken to the hospital but is “stable and alert” after being hit in the head by a wild pitch by Detroit Tigers’ Matt Manning during spring training

Boston Red Sox infielder Justin Turner was taken to a hospital after walking out of Monday’s game against the Detroit Tigers when he was hit in the face by a pitch.

The 38-year-old fell to the ground after being hit by right-hander Matt Manning before medical staff rushed to the plate.

Turner was bleeding and had a towel on his face as he left the field.

Boston released a statement providing an update on the state and status of its recent acquisition.

“He is being treated for soft tissue injuries and is being monitored for a concussion,” the Red Sox said in a statement.

“He’s undergoing further testing and we’ll update as soon as we have more information. Justin is stable, alert and in a good mood, given the circumstances.’

Turner will likely miss some time for the Red Sox, but there’s no timeline for his return to the field.

“I’m getting sick,” said color commentator Will Middlebrooks on the Red Sox on NESN.

“You never, ever, ever want to see that — especially in a spring training game where a guy is just trying to get his job done and get ready for the season.”

The two-time All-Star signed a two-year, $21.7 million deal with the Red Sox during the offseason after spending the last nine years with the Dodgers.

He previously played for the New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles.

He hit .278 with 13 homers and 81 RBIs in 128 games last season for LA.

In better news for the Sox, they managed to dismantle Detroit and win the game 7-1 in Fort Myers.
