They criticize the living conditions of Palestinians in Israeli prisons

Ramallah, March 6 (Prensa Latina) The human rights organization Addameer today denounced Israel’s holding behind bars 29 Palestinian women suffering from harsh living conditions and a systematic policy of medical negligence.

In a report published on March 8 to mark International Women’s Day, the NGO criticized the treatment of women prisoners by the Israeli Correctional Service.

A total of 15 are in pre-trial detention awaiting their respective hearings in Israeli courts, said the organization, which has questioned the guarantees of a fair trial.

The Commission on Prisoners’ and Ex-Prisoners’ Affairs recently revealed that Israeli security forces have detained more than 17,000 Palestinian women since 1967, when the neighboring state occupied Gaza and the West Bank.

He explained that the first prisoner was Fátima Barnawi, arrested that year and released a decade later.

The commission stressed that Palestinian women took part in the fight against the occupation and denounced that they and girls were systematic targets of Israeli crimes.

During their arrest and interrogation, they are also subjected to beatings, abuse and various methods of torture, he warned.
