Former CF Montreal head coach Wilfried Nancy is getting a lot of attention from Columbus Crew fans this season.
The Frenchman settled on the Ohio franchise this winter after struggling to cope with the bleu blanc noir, and fans reciprocate quite well. At the crew’s home opener Saturday at Lower.com Field, fans unfurled a giant banner with the driver’s picture behind one of the gates.
On this one you could read “Vive la Créwvolution” and also see a supporter holding a scarf “Allez Columbus”. The crew’s fans have truly embraced Nancy’s French heritage.
“I’m really grateful for that. Thanks to the amateurs for the tifo they made. It’s amazing, said the lead prospect, according to the Major League Soccer website. That’s what I do this job for. I personally do it for the emotions. When I came and saw that, I wanted to play.”
The crew also won this match 2 to 0 against DC United. It was prolific midfielder Lucas Zelarayan who scored the team’s two goals. Columbus was defeated 4-1 by the Philadelphia Union in their first game of the campaign.
