Jason Sudeikis Says ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3 Will Be Series’ Last (Exclusive)

It may be hard to believe, but this could be it for Ted Lasso!

ET’s Nischelle Turner spoke with Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham ahead of the premiere of the show’s third season, where Sudeikis revealed that the show’s third season was written as the last of the series.

“I mean, that’s how we went about writing it, that we wanted to close that chapter of it — so much changed when you hired writers, when you cast it, just based on the elements of the day like, ‘Oh, we want, that’s going to happen, but oh, it’s raining,” so you have to go with the flow. So there’s good ways to go with the flow and there’s adjustment. It was all great and harmonious, but the idea was to shut it down do three years. I mean, if we had the opportunity, if we were able to do it, you never know how something is going to go down.”

He continued, “This thing really could have been a sticky turd, or it could have been exactly what it is and people still don’t like it and aren’t allowed to do it. The fact that we get to do it – nice.”

Regarding the pressure Sudeikis felt to get Season 3 out to the fans who have been waiting with bated breath since Season 2, the 47-year-old screen star left many questions unanswered, the 47-year-old screen star said he was doing this “from the inside”. felt.

“Gosh, I mean, the pressure that I know I felt was just coming from within, within the confines of our little circle that writes the show, makes the show, and then edits the show,” Sudeikis confessed. “So we have the bar that we’re trying to hit, which luckily people seem to be enjoying at the level we’ve been operating at after the first two seasons, so it’s less outside pressure.”

Sudeikis said he heard fans’ concerns about when Season 3 would be released, and while the call for it certainly invaded his “personal space,” his goal was to keep his head down and the season with the same energy as finish the previous two.

“Surely I understood people’s desire and concern about when it’s coming out and all that,” he shared. “I couldn’t help but let that invade my personal space. But I had a pretty good idea of when that was going to be all along, so I was just trying to keep my nose to the grindstone, I think they’re like, you know, just get this thing done.”

Sudeikis, who began this journey with Ted Lasso 10 years ago with the NBC promo An American Coach in London, said after a decade, “There’s a lot of Ted in everyone.”

“Do we have access to it? Do we want to offer that to people? I mean, I’m not a good actor to play someone completely different, or that’s not in me in some way, and you just try to find that and explore that,” he said. “But I would say that one of the nice things that I’ve realized with this show over the past few years is that I’m probably — that sounds dirty, but I’m probably into all the characters, or at least they’re all a little bit.” inside of me.”
