• Volkswagen officially presents the North American version of the ID. Buzz this summer in California.
• The electric model is the modern incarnation of the Microbus of the 1960s.
• The model is expected to have a 111 kWh battery and a range of around 500 km.
We know it will be on our roads in 2024 and we already knew it would be presented to us later in the year. We now know where and when, next summer in California.
We are of course talking about the North American version of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, a model that made its debut on the old continent this year.
A modern and electric version of Volkswagen’s famous Type 2, it promises to be a hit for its crisp style but also for the emotional fiber it plays, evoking an entire era with lines reminiscent of the iconic product of yesteryear.
And because California is the place where the original model established its myth, it’s only natural that Volkswagen is launching the current version here.
Volkswagen used the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance held in Florida last weekend to confirm this.
After the official premiere, our ID. Buzz will show up at the dealer shortly after.

Keep in mind that the version reserved for us is the long wheelbase version and is still in testing. The model with a normal wheelbase is already on the road in Europe. The difference between the two is significant as our version benefits from an additional 10 inches between the centers of the front and rear wheels. This extra space makes it possible to add a third row of seats.
Depending on how successful the product will be, we can assume that variants will emerge. A long-wheelbase van is expected to be launched in some markets, and a version already outfitted as a recreational vehicle is in development.
Due to the larger format, our ID. Buzz gets a 111kWh battery rather than the 82kWh battery reserved for the shorter models. The MEB platform of the Volkswagen Group serves as the basis. It was developed for consumer electric vehicles. It already serves the SUV ID.4. We reckon with a range of around 500 km, but we’ll have to see.
The assembly of the SUV takes place exclusively at the Volkswagen plant in Hanover. According to some rumours, the company might consider manufacturing certain IDs. Buzz in the United States. Considering his Chattanooga Tennessee card is already spewing IDs. 4, the thing is quite logical.
Here, too, it will depend on the success of the model. We expect good results, but when it comes to a new product, the public always decides.
