A French tourist kills himself on a snowmobile in Lanaudière

A French tourist crossing the Lanaudière region died in a snowmobile accident in the municipality of Mandeville, north of Joliette, on Wednesday morning.

The tragedy happened around 10:15 am on the Chemin du Parc, not far from the Chemin de la Cabane.

According to our information, the victim, who was traveling with two other snowmobiles – his wife and a guide – suddenly accelerated for reasons that are still unclear and then crashed violently into a tree.

“We may be talking about improper handling of the snowmobile,” said Sergeant Éloïse Cossette, spokeswoman for the Sûreté du Québec.

When the rescue workers arrived at the scene, resuscitation maneuvers were immediately attempted, but without success.

The scene played out under the horrified eyes of his wife.

The 62-year-old snowmobiler was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Sûreté du Québec dispatched a collision investigator to the scene of the accident to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.

The final snowmobile season is particularly deadly this year, with nearly thirty snowmobile drivers already losing their lives in the province.
