Founded by a Ukrainian blogger who fled Crimea, this group has more than twenty channels on Telegram, supporting Russia since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
On the social network Telegram you can find the channel “InfoDéfense”, which delivers messages very focused on the war in Ukraine. “The West is fighting Russia to confiscate its resources, according to a former senior Pentagon adviser,” we can read in particular. The channel has translated articles, videos from Russian media, or even transcripts of speeches by Kremlin officials. On its homepage, “InfoDéfense” presents itself as “a team of volunteers from all over the world” and claims to “tell the truth that the majority of the media prefers not to broadcast”.
The French version is followed by 13,000 internet users
At the beginning of this chain was Yuri Podolyaka, a Ukrainian blogger based in Crimea who, at the beginning of the war, was looking for volunteers to translate his pro-Russian messages internationally. Today “InfoDéfense” has more than twenty channels on Telegram in different languages. The particularly active French version is followed by more than 13,000 people. In a survey published on its website, Le Monde shows a very structured organization made up of about forty volunteer participants. Contributors who are not allowed to display their profile picture or real name are subject to confidentiality rules, buy prepaid SIM cards for their phone. But for now, there is no evidence of any connection between his Telegram channels and Russian power.
