Actress Sharon Stone affirmed that one of her most emblematic roles resulted in her losing custody of her son in 2004.

Her role as the lead in the 1992 film Basic Instincts skewed public perceptions of her, Stone said on a podcast.

“Do you know that your mother makes sex films?” the actress recalled the judge asking her four-year-old son.

Reactions to a scene in the film in which she briefly exposes herself while crossing her legs led her to avoid similar roles, she said.

Stone and then-husband Ron Bronstein adopted their son Roan in 2000. But when the couple divorced in 2004, the judge awarded Bronstein custody.

This decision caused her great agony, the actress confessed to hosting Bruce Bozzi on the podcast Table for Two.

“I ended up at the Mayo Clinic with increased pounding in the upper and lower chambers of my heart,” Stone said. “It literally broke my heart”.

The actress stated that the treatment she received after the film was brutal considering how much sex and nudity is on television today.

“You may have seen a split second of my supposed nudity,” Stone said. “And I lost custody of my son”.

“humiliated”

Stone said many in Hollywood judged her for her role in the erotic thriller, in which she played a novelist who seduces a police detective, played by Michael Douglas.

Stone played the role of writer Catherine Tramell in the film Based Instincts.

“I was nominated for a Golden Globe for this role, and when I went to the awards ceremony and they called my name, Many people in the room laughedsaid stone.

“I was so humiliated,” she recalled. “I was like: Does anyone have any idea how difficult it was to play this role? How heartbreaking and scary was it?”

Stone said she now avoids roles that portray women in a sexualized light or with dark personalities. However, he added that fans should not confuse the actors with their characters.

“The guy who played Jeffery Dahmer (Netflix series about a serial killer) doesn’t think of anyone as a cannibal,” Stone said.

“It makes him a very complex person who has played an incredibly difficult role.”
