Google One: the VPN is now available to all subscribers at no additional cost – CNET France

The American tech giant has extended VPN functionality to all Google One offerings.

Good news for Google One subscribers! Effective immediately, the VPN functionality is no longer reserved Premium Subscribers. Even users who have subscribed to the Basic plan at €1.99/month can benefit from it, and that, without additional costs.

Remember that the VPN is already available for Windows and Mac, in addition to iOS and Android. It is offered in 22 countries, including France. However, it is not a very classic VPN. It’s not really used to circumvent geo-restrictions, but rather to do so Hide IP address from networks and encrypt online activities.

Dark web reporting and monitoring

Google is also adding the feature Dark web reporting and monitoring. Basically, the service will “scan the dark web for your personally identifiable information, such as your name, address, email address, phone number, and social security number.” If at any point the data appears on the dark web, the user will be notified immediately.

For this to be possible, the user must fill out this information when configuring their monitoring profile, but Google ensures that these are treated in accordance with its privacy policy and that it is possible for the user to do so delete information and stop monitoring at any time.

Note that the feature is only available for now US usersbut will soon be extended to other countries, including France.
