Shakira performed her breakup megahit “BZRP Music Session #53” live for the first time on Friday night.
The 46-year-old singer – who collaborated with Bizarre Rap on the Guinness World Record song – was joined on stage by the Argentinian DJ as she performed in front of a studio audience during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
BZRP Music Session #53, released in January, is packed with references to her split from longtime boyfriend Gerard Piqué. Shakira opened up about the painful breakup that inspired the song during her interview with Fallon.
“I had a very tough year post my breakup and writing this song was so important to me,” she said.

“It was a healthy way to channel my emotions. And I feel like after we released that song I really felt like I don’t even have fans out there.
“I have a sorority of women who have been through the same things I have, who think the way I think, who feel the way I do, who have had to endure as much crap as I have.” she explained.
“And I wrote the song for myself, but I also feel like it was meant for so many women out there who needed a forum and a voice to represent them in so many ways.”
The hitmaker and former professional soccer player, who share sons Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8, announced they ended their 11-year relationship in June after Piqué was accused of dating Shakira with current girlfriend Clara Chia Marti ( 23) to have cheated.

With the release of BZRP Music Session #53, Shakira has now broken 14 Guinness World Records, the organization announced on Friday. The song is the most streamed Latin track on Spotify in 24 hours, the most viewed Latin track on YouTube in 24 hours, the fastest Latin track with 100 million views on YouTube, and the most streamed Latin track on Spotify in a week, setting other records .
Shakira and Bizarrap celebrated their success backstage on The Tonight Show, where they were presented with their certificates before their performance.
Sharing her reaction to the song’s success, the Colombian native told Fallon, “I’m just waiting for someone to pinch me and wake me up from this dream.”
“It’s incredible to feel the reaction from so many people,” she added. “I think people really connect to music when it’s really real, when it’s real, when it’s from a real place.
“And the thing about the song is that it’s kind of become an anthem for so many women out there.”

During her performance, Shakira shared the backstory of the song, revealing that her son Milan had pushed her to collaborate with Bizarrap. She joked that her sons, who were in the audience, are “like my career advisors today,” but added that she “listens to everything they say because they actually have really good taste.”
She added that Milan, whom she described as a musician, “has very good hearing and very good taste.

“And he’s a huge bizarre rap fan,” she added. “And he said to me, ‘Mom, you have to work with Bizarrap. You have to get on a song with Bizarrap because you guys are going to be number 1.’ And he sent a voice memo to my manager, Jaime, and he said, ‘Jaime, you have to put my mom on a song with bizarre rap because they’re going to be number 1.’ And he was right.”
Bizzara told Fallon he reached out to Shakira on social media following the global success of his collaboration with Spanish rapper Quevedo, “Quevedo: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 52.” The two later met at a studio in Barcelona where he showed her two beats.

“I started feeling it in my body, you know. I usually have this visceral physical response to music.
“And when you see me, you know, two steps, things aren’t right. Do you know? I know when a song is working because then all of a sudden I start moving, like getting these little contractions from my tailbone to my pelvic bone, and then it just leads to hip movement.”
“Are you telling me your hips don’t lie?” Fallon joked, referring to the title of her 2005 hit.

“Yes. I didn’t want to go there,” Shakira replied, laughing.
“This is the best thing that has ever happened to me!” called the landlord. “That’s the biggest thing. I can retire. That’s all I really wanted to know is if your hips are really lying to you or not lying to you. You actually tell us!”
“They don’t,” she said. “They never do. And I know when a song is right when they start moving.”
