Not all nominees for the main Oscar categories take home the longawaited figure. But we can be sure of one thing, nobody goes away emptyhanded.

With gift bags worth R$642,000, the 95th edition of the Oscars takes place today from 9pm, a ceremony honoring the best in cinema.

What’s in this year’s goody bag? Every year the award prepares “treats” for the presenters and some nominees. In 2021, the value of the gifts reached R$ 1 million and included an item in honor of Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman, who died the previous year.

This time the bag is more “modest”, but the gifts remain eccentric. With more than 60 items, the freebies range from aesthetic procedures, beauty products, food and luxury vacations:

  • Three nights for 8 people at the Faro Punta Imperatore lighthouse in Ischia, Italy for R$ 47,000;
  • Deed of a small plot of land in Australia valued at BRL 261 for the Pieces of Australia Conservation Project;
  • arm liposuction for BRL 62,000 and up to BRL 50,000 for chemical peels, skin rejuvenation and botox;
  • A hand wash from Oprah Winfrey’s favorite list;
  • An exclusive hair restoration consultation with surgeon Dr. Alan J. Bauman, estimated at BRL 36,000;
  • The cheapest gifts include a $13 pack of Clif Thins and a $18 Japanese milk bun from Ginza Nishikawa.

Who gets the Oscar gifts?

Not all guests receive event treats. Hosts and nominees receive gifts for Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.

In addition, recipients can also decline gifts. In last year’s issue, actor Denzel Washington reportedly turned down his goodie bag. Actor JK Simmons donated the gifts to a charity auction, as did George Clooney in 2006.
