Oscar 2023, Hollywood awaits the night of the stars

Oscar 2023, everything is ready for the night of the stars. Hollywood is expecting the 95th edition of the Oscarsscheduled at the Dolby Theater from 5pm on Sunday afternoon (2am in Italy): All nominations

While highly confidential social events intersect at the city’s most exclusive hotels, from West Hollywood to Beverly Hills, the catwalk on which the VIPs will parade is a ferment of insiders and onlookers taking selfies.

This dream called Oscar

THE SPECIAL

The atmosphere on Saturday evening was that of the big events. “On this avenue we give away dreams every day. Tomorrow is our Christmas,” a woman dressed as Catwoman tells ANSA, a true Hollywood Boulevard institution, along with other colleagues dressed as superheroes or Star Wars characters. They are the daily guardians of the dream: they take photos with tourists, they add a bizarre touch to this part of town full of cheap souvenirs and cheap groceries. “This week we are doubling the business. Tomorrow we leave room for real stars. But we’ll be back on Monday,” promises Darth Vader. Traffic on the surrounding streets continues at a snail’s pace.

Rain graced Los Angeles at least on the last day of preparation. However, the uncertain weather forced the organizers to cover the catwalk with large waterproof tarpaulins. Fiery red curtains sway across the access walkway to the theatre, while the cellophane-covered floor is home to the world’s most famous ‘red carpet’, albeit champagne-colored this year. Dozens of security guards hunched over the barriers make sure the curious don’t step on them. A happy and colorful procession of people who have come to sniff the atmosphere of the Oscars passes by at the edges. “We’re a high school dance troupe in Salt Lake City. Ours isn’t an easy journey, it’s an inspection: next year we want to take the stage,” jokes the teacher, who follows 30 screaming teenagers. “We’re from Illinois,” shout other girls, just behind them, “It’s exciting to be here!”, and below selfies with a superhuman statuette.

In the gift shop of the adjoining Chinese Theatre, Vivi is certain: “This week is our most profitable week of the year”. The plastic version of the gold statuette costs $5.99: “You can feel electricity in the air”. Two German newlyweds who only saw the Oscars on TV are also enthusiastic: “Everything is smaller than I thought – says Corinne – but it was worth a look!”.
