The Crown faces fresh backlash as the show replicates the Ritz Hotel in Paris

The Crown risk angering William and Harry as bosses recreate the Paris Ritz hotel where Diana spent her last night – after anger at the “hurting and unnecessary” portrayal of her fatal car crash

It’s already drawn criticism for staging Diana’s final moments, and now The Crown risks further backlash as it recreates her final steps before the fatal car crash.

New set pictures show a replica of the Ritz Hotel in Paris – where the princess spent her last night.

It has been recreated at Elstree Studios, with images also showing two French police cars, a hearse and a black Mercedes similar to the one the late king is parked in outside.

The structure sits next to replicas of Buckingham Palace and No. 10 Downing Street.

Diana and Dodi Fayed had traveled from the Ritz Hotel in a black Mercedes when they died in the fatal accident in the early hours of August 31, 1997.

Netflix has previously insisted the “exact moment” will not be included in the sixth series.

But already in October, filming took place near the Alma tunnel – the site of the crash.

Two months later, Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki, who plays Diana, was swarmed by fake paparazzi as she reenacted the king’s final hours outside the Ritz Hotel in the French capital. Ms Debicki was dressed in an identical gray suit and wore black sunglasses.

Royal biographer Angela Levin previously told the Chron that filming scenes near where Diana died was “hurting” and “unnecessary”.

And Diana’s astrologer and friend Debbie Frank said it was “insensitive” and “obviously awful” for the Princess’ sons, William and Harry.

It was also reported that Ms Debicki was made to lie in an open coffin as the late Princess Diana. Show bosses have also been slammed for an alleged re-enactment of their final moments on an operating table surrounded by blood-soaked doctors fighting to save their lives.

Scenes recreating her funeral were filmed in secret at a disused RAF base last year.

The royal drama has continued to spark controversy over inaccuracies. A controversial scene in the recently released series five saw Prince Charles, played by Dominic West, lobbying then-Prime Minister John Major, played by Jonny Lee Miller, to force his mother’s abdication.

The streaming giant was recently forced by the series to add a disclaimer to the shows stating it is a “fictional dramatization”.

The sixth season will be released later this year.
