Quebecers honored at the opening of the JUNO Awards – TVA Nouvelles

The Quebecers were well represented at the opening ceremony of the 2023 JUNO Awards on Saturday night, with no fewer than five awards being won.

Montreal resident Rêve, now based in Toronto, got the ball rolling by winning Dance Recording of the Year with her track CTRL + ALT + DEL. She still has a chance to win the People’s Choice Award and Newcomer of the Year.

“It’s very interesting, it’s just so inspiring. It just keeps me going,” the singer said.

Montreal music production duo Banx & Ranx won the Newcomer of the Year award (group) but sadly lost the Single of the Year award, which incidentally was picked up by The Weeknd and the Director of the Year.

The Metal/Hardcore Album of the Year award was won by saguenéen group Voivod for Synchro Anarchy.

Les Louanges won the Francophone Album of the Year award with Crash, beating the albums of Ariane Roy, Hubert Lenoir, Daniel Bélanger and Lisa LeBlanc.

Canadian and Haitian Kaytranada won the Single Rap of the Year award titled Twin Flame. He was also nominated for the Director of the Year Award.

On the occasion of this 52nd edition, the group The Weeknd has collected the most nominations with six potential prizes, including four won on Saturday night. The group is closely followed by pop-punk singer Avril Lavigne.

The next JUNO gala evening will take place on Monday evening instead of Sunday to avoid competing with the Oscars and will conclude the presentation of the 42 JUNO awards for 2023.
