German is available in France on the Netflix platform. This is a film dedicated to the First World War, adapted from the novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque. The Academy of Oscars consists of 10,000 members representing most film industries. These are divided into 17 categories (for example Actors, Directors, Producers…), each voting to crown a nominee in their category. As for the best film, all members vote to determine their favorite feature film. This is a preferential vote in which you are asked to rank the nominees in the Best Picture category in order of preference. If 50% of voters put the same film first, it wins Best Office Film, which is extremely rare. If not, the film with the lowest preference in number 1 is removed from the votes and its votes then go to the film that comes second in those votes. Counting continues until one of the nominees receives 50% of the Academy votes.

That is why there is no representative of the country at the Oscar for the best foreign film. Among the nominees is Nothing New in the West, a German film with a total of 9 nominations. Then there is the Argentinian film Argentina, 1985, the Belgian film Close, the Polish film EO and finally the Irish feature film The Quiet Girl.

It’s an unexpected change that the Oscars organizers have embarked on this year: The traditional Oscars red carpet has gone white in 2023. Small precision according to Variety, it would be a “champagne” color. But why ? That is the question everyone asks. As of this writing, the organizers have not provided the reason for this change. Jimmy Kimmel, comedian and ABC talk show host, had fun. “A lot of people wonder if there will be problems this year, if there will be violence. I hope not.” A nod, of course, to Will Smith’s famous slap in the face to Chris Rock, which drew a lot of ink last year. “But if so, then I think the decision to drag a champagne carpet across a red carpet shows how confident we are that no blood will be spilled.”
3/12/23 – 11:02pm – A duel between Austin Butler and Brendan Fraser is expected for the Oscar for best actor
Sharing the awards at most of the pre-Oscar ceremonies, Austin Butler and Brendan Fraser will be decided by the Academy tonight in Los Angeles. One played Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic, the other impressed in his role in Darren Aronofsky’s latest film entitled The Whale. If we can tell Brendan Fraser has every chance, let’s not forget Austin Butler, who was also widely celebrated. We’re in for a surprise too, as Colin Farrell is also one of the favorites for his role in The Banshees of Inisherin.

The Oscars are to follow in France. As has been the case for several years, Canal+ is the exclusive broadcaster of the award ceremony. If it is to be followed live, it is not accessible in plain text since you have to subscribe to the scrambled channel to watch the broadcast from 1am to 4:45am Sunday night. The replay will also be available on MyCanal once the event ends for subscribers to the platform.
3/12/23 – 10:00 pm – Who are the most popular actresses to win the Oscars for acting?
Cate Blanchett appears to be a favorite for the Oscar for Best Actress, winning the award after playing a tyrannical orchestra conductor in Tar. She could win her third Oscar. Across from her, Michelle Yeoh from Everything, Everywhere All at Once also won the statuette. For a supporting role, it seems highly likely that Angela Bassett will be crowned for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
03/12/23 – 21:32 – Heading for an Oscar for Brendan Fraser for The Whale?
Brendan Fraser is a strong contender for the Academy Award for Best Actor. His performance in The Whale received critical acclaim and the returning actor received a six-minute standing ovation when the film was screened at the recent Venice Film Festival. Notably, he won the SAG Award for this role in 2023. The actor’s comeback could well be confirmed tonight if he wins an Oscar. Note, however, that he has some serious competition ahead of him, with Austin Butler in Elvis and Colin Farrell in The Banshees of Inisherin.

Last year, the Oscars celebrated Coda, the remake of The Aries Family, for the Best Picture Oscar. Jane Campion won the Oscar for Best Director for The Power of the Dog. On the interpretive side, Will Smith (The Williams Method), Jessica Chastain (In the Eyes of Tammy Faye), Troy Kotsur (Coda) and Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) were rewarded. Best Animated Film went to Encanto, while Best International Film went to Drive my car.
3/12/23 – 8:33pm – Do the previous ceremonies predict the winners?
Can we really predict the Oscar winners? Of course not, as it is the choice of the members of the Academy that can be influenced by the ‘campaign’ leading up to the award ceremony. However, certain indicators can show trends, such as the winners of previous awards. The Golden Globes and the BAFTAs in particular are being pursued for this. In recent years, however, they have had other award winners than the Oscars.

The last Oscars were particularly memorable for the slap Will Smith gave to Chris Rock on stage. The latter had made fun of his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith’s hair loss sufferer’s alopecia. Minutes later, the actor received the Oscar for his role in The Williams Method. He has since apologized for his gesture and has resigned from the Academy of Oscars.

Everyone remembers the last Oscars when Will Smith took the stage to smack Chris Rock, who had just insulted his wife. But remember, Coda, the remake of The Aries Family, also won the Oscar for Best Picture on this occasion, against serious competitors like Power of the Dog, Dune, Belfast or West Side Story.
03/12/23 – 7:00 p.m. – Who are the favorite actors at the Oscars 2023?
Who can win the Oscar for best actor 2023? If some already stand out as favorites, the competition promises to be tough with multiple contenders for the title. Austin Butler has won awards for his portrayal of the king in Elvis, as has Colin Farrell for his touching role in The Banshees of Inisherin. However, Brendan Fraser appears to be the favorite for the title as he signs an acclaimed and anticipated return with The Whale. For the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, it seems to be the year of Ke Huy Quan moving into Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. It was actually crowned at the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards.
03/12/23 – 18:32 – Who are the favorite movies to win the Oscars?
The betting game continues until the beginning of the Oscars. But who can emerge as the big winner of this 95th ceremony? Everything, Everywhere all at once is certainly a favourite, this radical and definitely unique film proposal in Hollywood, collecting 11 nominations this year. It could win the Oscar for best picture, although competition from Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, which has already won a Golden Globe (7 nominations), is tough. Also of note is that the Netflix film Nothing New in the West and The Banshees of Inisherin are up for grabs with 9 nominations each. Avatar 2, meanwhile, should win most of the technical awards it’s nominated for.
