Michelle Yeoh Celebrates Oscars With Powerful Thank You Message

Awarded as Best Leading Actress in Oscars 2023, Michelle Yeoh celebrated his victory this Sunday (12) with an important message of acceptance shared during a press conference in the Dolby Theater: “Don’t be afraid to take up space.”

“This is a historic moment and I thank that academy for the recognition,” the actress continued, speaking of becoming the first Asian actress to win an Oscar. “I am here after 40 years. So don’t give up. Don’t let anyone put you in a box and think your heyday is over.”

Yeoh was still talking about the importance mothers hold so much Everything everywhere at the same time like in real life. “Without them we wouldn’t exist. My mother always gave me a lot of trust and affection. She just asked me not to wear pants to the Oscars (laughs). Mothers push us to be better.”

The biggest winner at the 2023 Oscars was All and Everywhere at the Same Time, which won in 7 categories including Best Picture, Best Director (Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert) and Best Actress (Michelle Yeoh). They were followed by the German Nada de Novo no Front with 4 wins and A Baleia with 2 including best actor for Brendan Fraser.

The night featured a presentation by Jimmy Kimmelwho joked about the lack of representation among the nominees and Will Smith’s infamous slap in the face by Chris Rock last year.
