The Green Bay Packers sold the 39-year veteran to the Big Apple, according to former ESPN network reporter Trey Wingo. However, NFL Network pundit Ian Rapoport said that wasn’t the case.
“I wish something had happened but nothing happened,” he wrote on his Twitter account.
As has been the case for several years, Rodgers’ future with the Packers has been at the center of rumours. The holder of four NFL Most Valuable Player awards has repeatedly indicated he needs time to figure out if he wants to continue his football career despite having a valid two-season contract.
However, it appears the Packers are ready to go ahead and trade the one they drafted in the first round (24th overall) of the 2005 auction.
In 2022, Rodgers failed to repeat his exploits from previous campaigns. He threw for 26 touchdowns and had 3,695 passing yards but had 12 interceptions and 32 quarterback sacks. The Packers went 8-9 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2018.
For their part, the Jets haven’t played a game without a future since the 2010 season, the New York formation struggled at the pivot position throughout 2022, it’s Zach Wilson, second pick overall in the 2021 draft, who played the first nine games, before being replaced by veterans Joe Flacco and Mike White after poor performances.
The latter would also have chosen to leave the Jets to join the Miami Dolphins, he currently enjoying his autonomy. According to the ESPN network, White would have initialed a two-year contract worth a total of $16 million with the Florida club.
