Brossard: A fatal accident forced the closure of Highway 30

A motorist was killed late Wednesday afternoon when he crashed into the back of a heavy-duty truck on Highway 30 in Brossard, closing eastbound freeways.

The collision happened in the middle of rush hour, around 4:50 p.m., just before the junction with Highway 10, said Stéphane Tremblay, spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec.

The driver of the vehicle, a 65-year-old man from Saint-Basile-le-Grand, was seriously injured in the collision. His death was finally confirmed in the evening.

The accident could in all likelihood have happened during a sudden traffic slowdown, but this hypothesis needs to be validated by the investigators who were on site to reconstruct the sequence of events.

The collision resulted in the eastbound freeway being closed, forcing motorists to use the access road, creating miles of traffic jams. The freeway was finally reopened around 8 p.m.

In addition, a second accident occurred a little further east when a truck overturned on the onramp from Highway 30 to Highway 20 in Sainte-Julie.

The trucker was injured but his life is not threatened, SQ said.
