The Ratatouille Special! Disgusted couple say they found dead RATS swimming in their soup as they sue popular Manhattan restaurant – but owner denies claim as ‘nonsense’

  • Eunice Lucero-Lee claimed she found a rat in her soup, which she bought at a Koreatown restaurant she’s been frequenting for decades
  • She posted a series of photos of the rat entangled in vegetables
  • Restaurant Gammeeok has since defended itself against the allegations, claiming the couple have reported problems with their food in the past

A New York City couple has filed a lawsuit against a Koreatown restaurant, claiming they found a dead rat in their soup while eating their takeaway.

The series of viral photos posted by Eunice Lucero-Lee showed the rodent hovering at the top of the container while becoming tangled in what appeared to be vegetables from the Gammeeok restaurant.

Lucero-Lee and her husband have been ordering from Manhattan restaurant for over a decade and up until this weekend had not encountered any unwanted ingredients.

“We ordered sogogi gukbap, which is a kind of hearty Korean beef soup,” Lucero-Lee told NewsBreak.

Gammeeok has since denied the allegations, calling it “nonsense.”

“If there was a mouse that big, there’s no way I would have missed it,” Gammeeok wrote in an Instagram post, along with surveillance video of the kitchen showing workers making the soup.

“We checked the entire soup-making process, but we didn’t find any problems,” they added.

The restaurant slammed the couple, referencing their Yelp account, which allegedly contained another complaint against a restaurant dating back to 2016, when they found a “big bug” in their soup.

“This is a rare experience for most people in their lifetime,” the restaurant wrote. “It’s a one-time thing for most people.”

When Gammeeok first received Lucero-Lee’s complaint, they reportedly offered the couple a refund and a “$100 gift certificate to always handle customer complaints in a low profile.”

However, the restaurant claimed the couple asked for $5,000 to pay their hospital bill. They added that the money later requested rose to $25,000.

“After that, we said we couldn’t afford it, so we said we’ll hire an attorney to take action,” the restaurant wrote.

Despite Gammeeok’s rejection, Lucero-Lee urged people to avoid the restaurant at all costs.

“For your own safety, please never go there,” Lucero-Lee warned on Instagram.

Records from the New York City Health Department showed that Gammeeok received 15 violations at the last inspection on Jan. 18.

Several of the violations indicated that the restaurant lacked proper hygiene, food safety and cleanliness protocols.

One violation listed a hygiene issue related to “filth flies or food/waste/wastewater associations (FRSA) flies or other nuisance pests in the food and/or non-food areas of the facility”.

“FRSA flies include houseflies, blowflies, bottle flies, flesh flies, drain flies, phorid flies, and fruit flies,” the notice reads.

Aside from the poor ‘C’ rating, the restaurant seems to have several fans on Yelp who rave that their meal is perfect on a ‘late night’.
