(ANSA) — PARIS, MARCH 16 — French energy company Edf has identified 320 welds believed to be at risk of failure at its nuclear power plants and intends to begin controls that should reach 90% of the plants by the end of that Year. A notification was sent to the National Nuclear Safety Agency (Asn) following the recent discovery of a serious crack in the Penly 1 reactor in the Seine-Maritime department (Normandy).
“The Asn takes note of this new development in strategy and believes it is EDF’s responsibility to implement it,” the nuclear regulatory agency said in a statement.
