A Punjabi and Bollywood actor is recovering today from multiple stab wounds after a man with a hatchet and knife attacked him outside a gym about an hour southeast of Los Angeles.

Aman Dhaliwal was attacked in the parking lot of a Planet Fitness around 9:20 a.m. Tuesday by a man identified by Corona Police as Ronald Chand, 30, of Santa Ana. Both men ended up at the gym, where Dhaliwal was held by the point of a knife – and also verbally threatened others in the room – before the victim fought back and, with the help of bystanders, overpowered and restrained the attacker. Check out a video shot at the gym below.

Dhaliwal, who lives in nearby Riverside, suffered multiple stab wounds to his upper body, police said. He was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment for his non-life-threatening injuries and has since been discharged.

Chand suffered minor injuries when he was pinned down and was also taken to the hospital for treatment. After his release, he was taken to the Robert Presley Detention Center and charged with attempted murder. Bail was set at $1 million.

A model turned actor, Dhaliwal has appeared in Punjabi and Hindi films including Ik Kudi Punjab Di and Ajj De Ranjhe, as well as local TV shows such as Ishq Ka Rang Safed, Porus and Vighnaharta Ganesh. He has also had roles in Bollywood including Jodhaa Akbar and Big Brother.
