Where are the golf clubs that Japan gave Donald Trump? And the gigantic portrait of the American President from El Salvador? A parliamentary inquiry on Friday revealed some of the many gifts the billionaire has received that he has not declared.

This investigation, led by House Democrats, commemorates 100 items offered to the Trump family between 2016 and 2021, totaling more than $250,000.

Larger than life portrait

The report mentions, among other things, a dagger and saber estimated at $24,000 that were donated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and were not correctly declared. He also mentions emails from the White House regarding a larger-than-life portrait of Donald Trump donated by El Salvador that authorities have lost sight of.

Documents obtained by elected officials leading the investigation suggest this painting may have been moved to the billionaire’s luxurious Florida residence. Even golden golf clubs, which Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe gave to the president immediately after his election to “maintain a special relationship”, do not come into the hands of the administration responsible for these gifts.

The head of the parliamentary inquiry, Jamie Raskin, said he was “determined to locate the missing gifts (…) and determine whether they could be used to influence the President’s foreign policy”. Not declaring these items is against the law, he warns.

Also included in this long list is a mother-of-pearl portrait of Ivanka Trump given to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, the President’s daughter in 2017. Donald Trump’s entourage did not respond to AFP’s inquiries.
