The blond hair, the disturbing look, the devilish voice and the smile: the singer Billie Eilish becomes Eva, one of the characters that revolve around the anti-heroine Dre in the horror series swarm submitted to Amazon Prime today.
Billie Eilish makes her acting debut in the horror series starring Donald Glover (aka musician Childish Gambino) and playwright Janine Nabors. In a short video clip shared on the singer’s Instagram account, we see her character chatting with Dre (Dominique Fishback), the main character of this thriller.
The brief scene shows Dre confessing to hurting someone and Eva replies, “That’s fine” with an ominous smile.
Judging by the many comments online and the short video, the Happier Than Ever singer seems to be acting believably and naturally. After appearing in several music documentaries and providing her own voice on an episode of The Simpsons, this is the first-ever time that we’ve seen Billie Eilish in a fictional series.
The idea of including the singer in the cast of the series came from casting director Carmen Cuba, who knew of Billie Eilish’s desire to be an actress.
supportive character
Billie Eilish’s Eve is among the many supporting characters who will cross paths with the increasingly violent Dre. These are played by Damson Idris, Byron Bowers, Kiersey Clemons, Paris Jackson, internet personality Rickey Thompson and Rory Culki.
The series follows a young woman named Dre whose obsession with one of the world’s biggest pop stars combined with an unexpected trauma involving her sister Marissa (Chloe Bailey) sends her on a dark journey across the country.
The creators described Dre as an anti-hero of sorts, in the vein of Don Draper or Tony Soprano, but “through the lens of a modern black woman.” Dre’s love for a fictional pop star – much like Beyoncé – drives her to dark, violent and murderous exploits to explore the toxic side of iconography.
