Toys have always benefited to a lesser extent from technological advances. However, the result has rarely lived up to expectations as costs had to be cut to remain attractive to parents. Which often resulted in conceptually interesting but very limited toys. And Disney’s new Tron character is the perfect example.
News: Disney has introduced a new character inspired by the Tron universe. The latter is very different from what can be found in the toy market as it can represent a real face and copy the person’s voice.
How it works ? A simple scan of a face mimicking multiple expressions and recording 6 lines of dialogue is enough to bring “life” to the character.
- The process takes about 20 minutes. You will then have to wait approximately 1 hour before you can recover his Tron figure in his likeness.
- Plus, the customization doesn’t stop there, as Disney fans can choose from a variety of helmets, busts, and colors.
- Unlike Hasbro’s Selfie series, where you can 3D print a copy of your face onto a figurine, here the person’s face appears on an LCD screen. The latter can also display various scans of the person.
Note : This character, inherited from Tron, will only be available — at least for now — at Disney World Park in Florida, starting April 4 for $89.99 (excluding taxes).
- It is actually part of the promotion related to the Tron Lightcycle attraction opening in the Tomorrowland part of the park.
- We can also see an attempt on the part of Disney to bring this somewhat forgotten saga to light while a new film is being made, Tron: Ares, starring Jared Leto in particular. The last port to the big screen was in 2010 and 2012 to the small screen.
