Today show: Weather presenter Scherri-Lee Biggs marries Daniel Venables in Perth

Channel Nine presenter Scherri-Lee Biggs has married former AFL player Daniel Venables in a stylish outdoor ceremony in her hometown of Perth.

The couple, who have been together since 2021, tied the knot on Sunday at the quaint Old Young gin distillery in the outer rural suburb of Henley Brook.

Scherri-Lee, 32, looked stunning on her special day in a white lace dress with intricate patterns on the skirt and bodice and a long tulle veil.

Daniel, 24, wore a white tuxedo jacket as he dodged his wife for their first kiss as newlyweds in front of their family and friends.

A day earlier, the couple threw a party at a waterfront restaurant for their loved ones.

She also posted a series of photos from the reception as the couple celebrated the night with their guests, including Nine News Perth anchor Tracy Vo.

Daniel, a former West Coast Eagles midfielder, surprised Scherri-Lee by proposing on the beach just before Christmas last year.

“Forever is not enough with you,” she wrote on Instagram at the time, alongside a photo of the couple embracing by the sea as she flashed her diamond ring.

The 9News Perth weather presenter – known to East Coast viewers as a backup presenter on the Today Show – went public with Daniel just seven months earlier, in May 2022.

While it’s unclear how long they’ve been together, the pair were first pictured together in Vaucluse, Sydney in early January this year, suggesting they may have started seeing each other sometime in 2021.

Daniel wasn’t Scherri-Lee’s first boyfriend from the Eagles as she was previously in a relationship with Brad Sheppard from May 2018 to December 2019.

Daniel’s football career was brutally cut short at the age of 20 when he suffered a severe concussion during a game against the Melbourne Demons in the ninth round of the 2019 AFL season.

He suffered seven brain bleeds after a disgusting collision while fighting for a mark, and later told his parents, “I have a feeling my brain is going to explode.”

After being forced into early retirement due to persistent symptoms, the 2018 Premiership player is seeking an $8m payout, reports The Age.

His family have held talks with AFL chief Gillon McLachlan and AFL legal chief Stephen Meade about compensation.

Daniel turned down an offer of $800,000 in a separate filing, with his father Peter Venables saying: “They offered us a payout but we didn’t take it.

“It’s not enough and they want to tax it too. I’m paying for Daniel to live. My wife and I take care of him. We won’t let go of that, that’s wrong. We’re not going anywhere. The wall is falling.’
