De La Cruz and Martinez They got together in 2011. A year later, they began studying at the University of Puerto Rico in the northern port city of Arecibo while working at a nearby grocery store. The lawsuit alleges that during this time, Martínez was constantly creating songs and rhythms and consulting with De La Cruz, who was responsible for planning the parties he performed at and managing his accounts and contracts.
The origin of the phrase “Bad Bunny, Baby” dates back to 2015, when Martínez De La Cruz asked to record himself speaking. She taped it in a bathroom while staying at a friend’s house because that was the quietest place she was and sent it to Martinez, the lawsuit says.
On January 1, 2016, Martínez asked De La Cruz to marry him and they planned to do so in July of that year. In April, Rimas Entertainment signed Martínez, and in 2016 De La Cruz was admitted to the University of Puerto Rico to study law. She ended her relationship with Martínez in May this year.
They returned in 2017 but broke up again.
In May 2022, a Bad Bunny representative contacted De La Cruz and said he needed to speak to her.
In a call, the representative mentioned to him: “I know you don’t like talking about Voldemort (regarding Martinez), but I have to ask you something.”says the lawsuit.
offered him $2,000 to buy a recording of his voice. De La Cruz declined and spoke to someone at Rimas Entertainment, who also offered to buy the recording, saying it would be used on the forthcoming album Un verano sin ti, the lawsuit says.
They never reached an agreement and the song was released without De la Cruz’s consent, according to court records.
