Goal Costa Rica. The indiscretion about Don’s future George Ganswein circulating in the Vatican, thanks to the expectation of a Spanish site, Religion Digital. Subject to last-minute changes, Pope Francis has reportedly decided to entrust a diplomatic seat in Latin America to the German archbishop, Benedict XVI’s faithful secretary for almost twenty years.

It was not until Sunday morning that Don Georg Gänswein assured in the sacristy of a Roman church that the pope had not yet resolved his reservations and decided on his future appointment. He added that he is waiting to know what his fate is. «In the last few days we had a conversation with the father, about twenty-five, thirty minutes, I informed him about the practice of making wills, it will take at least another three weeks; he said about me that he hasn’t decided yet, he still has some time to think about it”.

With the tasks and handling of the numerous bureaucratic procedures involved in the executorship of the late Ratzinger, of which he is designated executor, now complete, the German archbishop can only await the publication of the new office. Religion Digital informs that last week the Holy See requested the Costa Rican authorities to approve Benedict XVI’s personal secretary. If, as usual, there is no administrative response, Rome will take the “yes” for granted and announce Don George’s destination. A step that could of course come as a surprise, since Gänswein has taken a rather critical position towards some passages of Pope Francis’ pontificate.

The Catholic Church has a special position in the Latin American country. According to Article 75 of the constitution, Catholicism is the official state religion. THE ABUSE
In the past, the local church has been rocked by a few cases of abuse. Last August, courts ordered the Costa Rican Bishops’ Conference and Archbishop of San José Rafael Quirós to pay $100,000 in compensation to Carlos Alberto Muñoz, a victim of sexual abuse by former priest Mauricio Víquez. The events took place in 2003 and were covered up by the church hierarchy.
