2023 BAFTA TV Awards Nominations Announced

2023 BAFTA TV Awards Nominations Announced

British Academy voters spread the love for small screens at the 2023 BAFTA TV Awards, with a wide range of shows receiving nominations.

Announced March 22, BBC/AMC comedy-drama This is Going to Hurt and BBC Police drama The Responder lead the field of nominees with six nominations each, closely followed by Apple TV+ shows Bad Sisters and Slow Horses, Netflix’s The Crown and BBC/Amazon Western The English at Five. Am I Unreasonable?, Big Boys, Somewhere Boy and Top Boy each earned four nominations. A total of 128 programs were nominated.

While it’s a close race for shows, for broadcasters the BBC has a comfortable lead with 81 nominations, followed by Channel 4 with 33, Netflix with 24, ITV with 19, Apple TV+ with 15, Sky with 14 and Disney+ with 8 nominations.

Among the names who received their first BAFTA TV nominations are several well-known stars, including Gary Oldman for Slow Horses, Cillian Murphy for Peaky Blinders and Daniel Radcliffe for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

Unlike the BAFTA film awards, the winner of each category in the BAFTA TV awards is determined by a panel of judges, leading to greater diversity, according to many.

The BAFTA TV Craft Awards will be held at The Brewery in London on April 23rd, while the BAFTA TV Awards will be held at the Royal Festival’s Hall on May 14th (and will also be broadcast on the BBC).
