- Because of “pre-conduct” he had to be searched daily for weapons
- One of the victims is in stable condition, another in critical condition
A Denver high school student is on the run after shooting at two male staffers who were searching him for a gun.
The shooting happened around 10 a.m. Wednesday at East High School in Denver, Colorado. The teenager was not named and it is unclear how seriously the two school employees are injured.
It happened while he was being searched for a gun to which he was exposed daily due to “past conduct”.
“You were searched and a weapon was seized during the search. Shots were fired,” Police Chief Ron Thomas said at a news conference.
It’s unclear why the boy was allowed to continue attending school if he was seen as such a threat.
Mayor Hancock described the teen as African American with an “Afro” and a hoodie with the slogan “Astronaut.”
“Obviously he is armed and dangerous and ready to use the gun as we learned this morning,” he said.

After firing multiple shots from a handgun, he fled the scene and remains on the run.
“We’re looking for the suspect.
“We will find this suspect and we will hold this suspect accountable for his actions this morning by putting everyone at risk and certainly injuring the two staff members who were doing their jobs at the time trying to protect everyone,” he said Mayor Michael Hancock.
One of the staff is in stable condition and the other is in critical condition.
“One is undergoing surgery, the other is stable and able to talk and comment on what happened,” Hancock said.
The students were in third grade at the time.
The shooting comes just a month after a student at the school was shot dead on campus.
Luis Garcia died in hospital as a result of his injuries. No one has been arrested in connection with his death.
After that, students from the school stormed the town hall and demanded a change in the gun law.
