Mexican actress Rebecca Jones dies at 65 Las Vegas

MEXICO CITY – Mexican actress Rebecca Jones, with a long career in film, theater and soap operas, died this Wednesday at the age of 65, according to a statement released by her representative on Instagram.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved and admired Rebecca Anne Jones Fuentes (May 21, 1957 – March 22, 2023),” said their publicist, Danna Vázquez.

The actress suffered from ovarian cancer for several years and was recently hospitalized, according to media reports.

“Rebecca was accompanied at all times by her loved ones, she left in peace and with deep gratitude to her audience, for whom she has worked throughout her life,” Vázquez’s statement added.

She worked until the last moment, despite being hospitalized. According to the media in Mexico and friends, she was one of the most important Mexican artists of her generation to champion women’s rights in film and television.

Jones was the daughter of a Mexican mother and an American father. When she was young, her family moved to California, where she studied acting at various institutions including the University of Southern California.

After working as a waitress for some time, Jones returned to Mexico in 1981 and pursued artistic opportunities.

Two years later she made her debut as an actress in the play “El Coleccionista”, for which she received several awards and was even voted Revelation of the Year by specialist critics.

He played his first leading role for television in the series “El ángel caído” (1985).

From that moment on, Jones’ realism and acting prowess made her one of the most sought-after and respected actresses not only in film and theater but also in soap operas, where she almost always played strong and fighting women.

She was married to actor Alejandro Camacho for 25 years, from whom she divorced in 2011.
