Hodgkin lymphoma: A cancer that attacks the body’s disease-fighting network

Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymph nodes, which are the body’s disease-fighting network.

This network consists of the spleen, bone marrow, lymph nodes, and thymus gland.

There are different types of lymphoma, but there are two main types: non-Hodgkin and Hodgkin.

Hodgkin lymphoma is a type of cancer that starts in the white blood cells. It is named after Thomas Hodgkin, an English doctor who first identified the disease in 1832.

It affects about 1,950 people each year in the UK and 8,500 each year in the US.

Hodgkin lymphoma most commonly occurs between the ages of 20 and 24 and between the ages of 75 and 79.

Survival rates are much more favorable than most other types of cancer.

Symptoms include:

  • Cough

Risk Factors:

  • decreased immunity
  • a family history of the condition

  • radiotherapy
  • steroids
  • Stem cell or bone marrow transplants
