“This episode ruined me!” Corrie is rocked by one of the saddest deaths of all time as viewers are left in tears by a ‘heartbreaking’ farewell

Coronation Street was hit by one of the saddest deaths of all time on Wednesday night as viewers said goodbye to Evelyn’s beloved dog, Cerberus.

The emotional scenes left fans in tears as Evelyn decided to have her pet put to sleep after he suffered a drastic drop in health.

While Corrie is no stranger to unexpected tragedy, this death hit many fans harder than most as they admitted on Twitter that they could relate to the loss of a family member so loved.

Many also praised Maureen Lipman’s performance as Evelyn in the devastating scenes as she said goodbye to her “best boy” while the vet put him to sleep.

And Evelyn’s excitement was made worse by the fact that she learned from her boyfriend Roy Cropper that Cerberus had accidentally eaten an Eccles cake, which may have caused his health to drastically deteriorate.

As a result, Evelyn feared for her older dog’s health as he refused to move from the sofa and skipped his food.

When she took her pet to the vet, she was told he would undergo further tests and would have to wait for the results.

Before she found out the Cerberus results, Evelyn was furious when Roy admitted he accidentally dropped an Eccles cake at the cafe which the dog may have eaten.

Eccles cakes contain raisins, which are poisonous to dogs, and Evelyn was devastated to learn her lifelong companion was suffering from kidney failure.

While the vet said there was a treatment, given Cerberus’ age, it would be best to euthanize him.

Evelyn and her grandson Tyrone had some time to say goodbye to Cerberus and he died peacefully at his owner’s side.

Evelyn petted her pet and said to him, “Just go to sleep my little angel” while petting him and thanking him for his unconditional companionship.

The heartbreaking death prompted a flurry of reactions from fans, who admitted they could relate to the loss of a beloved family pet.
