Mark Zuckerberg’s company hasn’t given up hope of making the desktop version of WhatsApp a big player in the conferencing software market.
News: Meta launches a new version of the WhatsApp application for Windows. This version, which is now available for download, enables, among other things, video calls with up to 8 people and voice calls with up to 32 participants.
- The new version is only available for Windows for the time being. An improved version of the app for Android tablets is currently in beta and WhatsApp also plans to improve the Mac version, but the latter is still in the early stages of beta testing.
The detail : Whether video or voice, calls on the PC version of WhatsApp are end-to-end encrypted, Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post.
Note : WhatsApp promises on its blog that these limits will increase over time “to help you stay in touch with loved ones or colleagues.”
- A promise reminiscent of Meta’s attempts to dethrone video conferencing apps that exploded during the coronavirus pandemic.
- Back then, Meta was mostly focused on Messenger and WhatsApp’s mobile app.
- The new video and voice calling features announced today in the desktop version of the messaging app will certainly have a limited impact once normal life resumes.
Parallel to : WhatsApp also said groups are getting improvements.
- Administrators have new controls for managing groups, including privacy. Now they can decide who can join a group.
- Users can also find out what groups they have in common with other people just by going to their profile.
