Thailand: Two years in prison for hidden cameras in toilets

A Thai court on Thursday sentenced a former employee of the Australian embassy in Bangkok to two years in prison for installing hidden cameras in the women’s toilets at his former workplace.

Nayot Thamsongsana, 39, has been found guilty of two counts of sexual assault, a Bangkok prosecutor told AFP.

This Thai man, who worked as a computer technician at the embassy, was arrested in January 2022 and then quickly released.

According to Australian broadcaster ABC, the incident erupted last year after an SD card was found by one of the spy cameras on the ground.

Sixty women testified to police during the investigation, ABC said.

Digital sex crimes remain relatively rare in Thailand.
