Strikes and demonstrations paralyzed France on Thursday. Despite the protests, President Macron maintains his pension reform. There are several explanations for the climb.

France does not rest: on Thursday, a general strike and protests paralyzed the country again. The mood at the protests in Bordeaux, Nantes and Rennes was heated, as reported by the media. Also in Paris, police used tear gas in the afternoon. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin wrote in the evening of more than 120 emergency services injured and more than 80 arrests.

Clashes broke out in what was initially a peaceful demonstration in central Paris after security forces were attacked with projectiles and rubbish bins set on fire by small groups of the “Black Bloc”. According to media reports, 21 people were arrested. According to the CGT union, around 800,000 people took part in the protests in the capital alone. There were riots in several other cities.

High school students from the renowned Lycée Louis le Grand in Paris barricaded the school gates with garbage bags. Trains and flights were canceled across the country and demonstrations were planned. With these and other actions, the opponents of the Social Security reform wanted to express their revolt on the ninth day of action and show that they can go further.
