French boxer Christian Mbilli won a spectacular fight against Carlos Gongora at the Casino de Montreal on Thursday.
Mbilli (24-0-0, 20 KOs) prevailed against the Ecuadorian Gongora (21-2-0, 16 KOs) after a unanimous decision by the judges.
The 27-year-old successfully defended his WBC Continental Americas and WBA International titles.
The adopted Montrealer demonstrated excellent cardiovascular condition in the fight. He was hit with powerful punches in the second and seventh rounds but never let go, striking his rival’s steel jaw countless times.
Working under the aegis of Eye of the Tiger management and Quebec trainer Marc Ramsay, Mbilli is undoubtedly among the world’s super middleweight elite. He still hasn’t suffered a career loss.
Gongora was also the IBO World Champion in 2021.
Earlier in the evening, Trois Rivières heavyweight Simon Kean (23-1, 22 KOs) overtook the KO. against American Eric Molina (29-9, 21 KOs) in round seven.
