EXCLUSIVE: The most critically acclaimed John Wick of all time, Lionsgate’s John Wick: Chapter 4 tonight sees the franchise’s best-ever Thursday previews at around $8 million per industry estimate.
The previews for the R-rated picture started at 3:00 p.m. today. Tracking had the Chad Stahelski-directed sequel poised for a $65-$70 million opening weekend, which would mark a franchise-best in the US.
This estimated $8 million preview figure easily beats the $5.9 million preview figure for John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, which was released in May 2019 at a previous franchise opening day of $22.6 million and 3 days of 56.8 million US dollars.
John Wick: Chapter 4 previews are also ahead of Halloween 2018, which grossed $7.7 million on its Thursday night, $33 million on Friday, and $76.2 million on three days. Chapter 4 also comes ahead of Thursday’s Bad Boys for Life previews ($6.3 million), which eventually turned into a $62.5 million Friday-Sunday in January 2020.
The Box Office Company, which powers Google, IMDB, Bing, TikTok and Apple with its Pulse product, is reporting that opening weekend pre-sales of John Wick: Chapter 4 are surpassing those of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and more than will sell 3x as many tickets as Bullet Train at the same time in their sales cycle.
Parabellum was ranked as Keanu Reeves’ second best-selling premiere of all time at the domestic box office, behind 2003’s The Matrix Reloaded, which grossed $91.7 million over a five-day weekend Friday through Sunday, which translates to $134.2 million brought in dollars.
Global Outlook for John Wick: Chapter 4 costs $115 million from 71 offshore jurisdictions including the UK, Germany, Australia, France, Italy, Spain and Mexico.
We’ll have more updates tomorrow morning. There is always a chance that these numbers may fluctuate. Late night business is expected for this fan-favorite sequel.
