Huawei has presented two new headphones: the FreeBuds 5 with a very original design and the FreeBuds Pro 2+ for measuring heart rate and temperature.

On Thursday, March 23, Huawei presented its new smartphones Huawei P60, P60 Pro and P60 Art in China, but also its folding model Mate X3 and its new high-end connected watch Huawei Watch Ultimate. The Chinese manufacturer also took advantage of the event to lift the veil on its new wireless headphones, the Huawei FreeBuds 5, as expected.

FreeBuds 5 in a very strange format

As you can expect from the teasers shared in the last few days, the Huawei FreeBuds 5 stand out above all for their very original shape, with rounded stems, with a very ergonomic shape, far from the straight and sometimes even angular stems of some competitors.

Like the FreeBuds 4 or FreeBuds 3 before them – and unlike the “Pro” ranges or the FreeBuds 5i – the Huawei FreeBuds 5 are button-style earbuds. They do not benefit from silicone tips and therefore do not offer passive isolation. So they’re like the AirPods 3 open-back headphones. But that doesn’t stop them – at least on paper – from benefiting from active noise cancellation. In fact, Huawei announces adaptive hybrid noise cancellation thanks to the integration of three microphones per earbud.

For sound reproduction, the Huawei FreeBuds 5 are also equipped with 11 mm diameter transducers capable of recovering frequencies from 16 to 40,000 Hz. They are also compatible with Bluetooth audio codecs LHDC and LDAC for transmission up to 990 kbps and Hi-Res Audio Wireless Certification.

In terms of autonomy, Huawei headphones are equipped with 42 mAh batteries, while their case benefits from a 505 mAh battery. Enough to allow up to 3.5 hours of listening with noise cancellation on paper (5 hours without noise cancellation) and up to 20 hours with the case (30 hours without noise cancellation). The case is also compatible with Qi wireless charging via induction.

Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2+ for measuring temperature and heart rate

In addition to the FreeBuds 5, Huawei has also announced a new version of its high-end wireless headphones, the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2+. Always developed in collaboration with the French Devialet, they also benefit from a measurement of heart rate and body temperature, taking up the main characteristics of the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2. As a reminder, these headphones are therefore equipped with two transducers per ear. an in-ear format and active noise cancellation.

Huawei has already announced the marketing of the Huawei FreeBuds 5 in France. They will be available in France from May 9th at a price not yet communicated. However, keep in mind that the FreeBuds 4 were priced at €150 at launch. We can therefore expect the same price range for their successors. For their part, the FreeBuds Pro 2+ have not been announced for the French market.
