On February 24, the Frankfurt City Council and those responsible for the Hesse region forced the cancellation of the concert planned for May 28 as part of the This Is Not A Drill tour. This decision came after statements by the Pink Floyd co-founder, which were classified as anti-Semitic. Roger Waters was particularly critical of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinian population.

Several musicians have decided to start an online petition in support of Roger Waters, hoping the decision will be reversed. Eric Clapton, Nick Mason, Peter Gabriel, Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) and Brian Eno are among the signers. Actress Susan Sarandon, author Noam Chomsky and director Ken Loach also offered their support to Roger Waters.

“(We) must not give in to pressure from individuals or groups who would rather see Waters’ music silenced than confront the issues his music brings to light,” says the Change-Website.org, which the petition hosts. “We are urging those who have canceled Waters concerts to change their minds. »

As of this writing, more than 17,000 people have signed the petition in support of Waters, which went live two weeks ago. The trade fair in Frankfurt is canceled for the time being. The city of Munich could also ban the “This Is Not a Drill” tour on its territory.

Note that a petition to uphold the cancellation of the concert has also been started on Change.org. She had collected 464 signatures during our visit.
