New record: Scientist wants to live under water for 100 days! Multiverse News

The eagerness to contribute to science is really what moves a scientist. You are always looking for discoveries and news that can help people. For this reason, Joseph Dituria scientist from the United States wants to spend a lot of time underwater, 100 days to be precise!

Who is Joseph Dituri?

Joseph Dituri is a 55yearold American diver and scientist. He is a researcher at the University of South Florida, a public university in Tampa.

Also known as dr. Deep Sea (Doctor Mar Profundo, in Portuguese) is Professor of Biomedical Engineering. He is also a former member of the US Navy and served as a dive officer for 12 years.

During this time he saw how many colleagues suffered from brain injuries, so today his goal is to conduct underwater experiments and spend 100 days underwater!

The underwater experience brings answers to all of Joseph’s questions. So he wants to research hyperbaric medicine.

In this therapeutic modality, pure oxygen is inhaled at a pressure of 2 to 3 ATM. This focuses more on treating embolism and gangrene. In addition, of course, to the treatment of the brain injuries that motivated Dituri’s research.

For this he decided to spend more than three months underwater in a nine square meter place! Sounds crazy to many, but this will definitely show the impact it has on the body.

It is worth mentioning, however, that he will not be there entirely alone and without help. To put health first, the scientist will count on the presence of doctors to assess his vital signs and any other type of information related to his wellbeing.

a new record

To date, the longest time a human has been underwater was 73 days in 2014. This experience was followed by two biologists at Jules’ Undersea Lodge. The place is known as an underwater hotel, and Dituri has been staying there since March 1st!
