For example, according to a survey conducted by Ipsos on behalf of Global News, 31% of Canadians believe developing AI technologies is a good thing, while 30% think the opposite and 39% believe they don’t know enough to express themselves oneself.

The study also found that people who had previously heard of ChatGPT, or 42% of respondents, were more likely to have a positive opinion of AI technologies (45%). This number only reaches 21% among those who have never heard of the “chatbot”.

“Interestingly, those with the highest and lowest levels of education (55% college graduates; 52% no degree) are most likely to think this technology is a good thing, while those with intermediate levels of education (37% some post-secondary; 37% high school graduates) are less so positive,” Ipsos said in a statement.

The pollster also clarified that men (53%) have a better opinion on the subject than women (32%).

The research was conducted between February 15 and 17 among 1,350 Canadians aged 18 and over.
