A trade union warning strike across Germany’s transport sector on Monday will also have a huge impact on rail traffic and aviation in Austria. All train connections via Deutsches Eck are affected. A shuttle service will be arranged every two hours. Trips can take up to three hours longer. Trains to and from Germany will be shortened or cancelled. Many air connections with the neighboring country will also be cancelled.
All RJ and RJX connections scheduled to run via Deutsches Eck terminate and begin at Salzburg Hbf or Kufstein. There is a shuttle service between Wörgl and Salzburg. ÖBB recommends postponing travel to, from and via Germany. Current information is available at oebb.at.
Tickets booked for a trip to/from/via Germany during the strike can be canceled and refunded free of charge if the trip does not take place. The train connection for Sparschiene tickets valid during the strike period and until 23.3. were purchased is considered revoked: National ÖBB Sparschiene tickets for connections on 27.3. via Deutsches Eck can therefore be used until March 29, 2023 inclusive. International ÖBB Sparschiene and regular tickets to/from Germany with travel date 27.3. and 28.3. are valid from now until April 4, 2023 inclusive.
Individual night train connections are already affected from the night of March 25th to March 26th. Some of the restrictions on night train services will last until the night of March 28th to March 29th. For all night trains affected by cancellations or partial cancellations due to the strike, tickets can also be canceled and refunded free of charge.
Failures also in air traffic
There will also be failures in aviation. By far the biggest airport, Vienna-Schwechat, is naturally the hardest hit. But flights in Graz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Linz and Klagenfurt can also be canceled.
At Vienna airport, for example, early Friday afternoon, 45 AUA connections to and from Munich, Frankfurt and Stuttgart were affected, an AUA spokeswoman said when asked by the APA. The AUA informs its passengers comprehensively. A spokesperson for Vienna Airport also urged all travelers to obtain information about their flights from their airline or tour operator. Not only AUA connects Vienna or federal state airports with German airports.
