Former Barcelona player Gerard Pique has spoken openly about his breakup with Shakira.

In an interview with El Pais, the former footballer explained that following his split from the ‘Loca’ singer, he is focusing on his children. Together they have two sons: Sasha, 8, and Milan, 10.
“Everyone has a responsibility to do what’s best for their children … It’s about protecting them,” he said. That is the job of every parent. That’s my focus and that’s my job as a father.”
While he hasn’t explained where he and his ex-girlfriend are currently, Gerard Pique confirmed he’s “very happy” in his new relationship with Chia Clara Marti.
“I keep doing what I want,” he said. When I die I will look back on everything and hope that I still did what I wanted. I want to stay true to myself. I’m not going to spend money to polish my image.”
He continued, “The people I love and care about are the people who know me. I don’t care about the rest… I devote my energy to being with my loved ones and giving them what I have. I am very happy. There were changes in my life and I was able to keep my happiness.”
Last June, Gerard Pique and Shakira announced they had split after 11 years together. Their joint statement read: “For the well-being of our children, who are our top priority, we ask that you respect our privacy.”
The Colombian singer has since released a single, ‘Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53’, in which she pranks her ex and her new companion, and it’s met with great success.
